Môreson Manor

by Rene_Hartslief, March 25, 2015
"We happened upon their ‘garage sale’ with a display of exquisite antiques, my heart quickening at the sight of a beautifully crafted upright piano. Harold, the owner, led us on a tour of the historic farmhouse which has been “lovingly restored and decorated true to a bygone age of colonial opulence and a proud history of the platteland.” Natalie, an artist, lit up as she spoke of upcoming events in the town, such as the Swartland Revolution, beginning on 7 November 2014, insisting it would be well worth a visit to meet some interesting people, both local, and those who are travelling internationally and had booked in ages ago. Natalie’s art, complete and in progress, adorns one of the living areas and immediately one feels that this is a home brim-full of love, creativity and attention to detail. Having noticed me admiring the piano earlier, Harold leads me through to the living room where an electric piano begs me to run my fingers over its keys. “Would you like to try it?” he offers, and I don’t need to be asked twice. Harold is a musician, having performed in Cape orchestras and now, as he tells me, spends early hours of the morning at his piano, earphones on so as not to disturb guests and his wife, tickling the ivories".
